ASEF 2023 – General Rules
All students who compete at ASEF must follow the rules set by the ASEF Steering Committee.
- ASEF is open to all students from 5th grade to 12 grade.
- Grade 10, 11 and 12 students are in the “Senior” category.
- Grade 6, 7, 8 and 9 students are in the “Junior” category.
- Selected skilled 5th graders may participate in a category called ‘Little Scientists’.
- ASEF Senior will be held on February the 18th, 2023 Saturday.
- ASEF Junior (together with Little Scientists) will be held on February the 19th, 2023 Sunday.
- The venue for both ASEF finals is Turgut Ozal Education Complex .
- Application deadlines:
- ASEF Junior – February the 8th, 2023 Wednesday.
- ASEF Senior – February the 8th 2023 Wednesday.
- The categories of ASEF are as follows:
I. NATURAL SCIENCES
➣ Mathematics
➣ Physics and Engineering
➣ Chemistry and Engineering
➣ Biology and Engineering
Each sub-category will be evaluated separately.
II. COMPUTER SCIENCES:
➣ Simulation Programming
➣ Gaming Development and design
➣ Web Design
➣ Robotics
➣ Hardware Control and Networking
Each sub-category will be evaluated separately.
III. VISUAL ARTS
➣ Poster Design
➣ Short Movie, Industrial Design
➣ Computer-Based 3-D Design
➣ Installation Art.
Each sub-category will be evaluated separately.
- ASEF uses English language as the medium of communication with its contestants, supervisors and jurors. Thus, all participants are expected to have a good command of English.
- The contestants have to prepare and register their projects under the supervision of their teachers. Projects not approved by the supervisor will not be accepted. Supervisors must be from their own school teachers.
- Inappropriate information; false, forged and/or plagiarized data may (and will) cause elimination of the project.
- Each student or group can only participate with one project in a certain category. Example: group A can have a project in Natural Sciences in sub-category physics but not in other sub categories. Meanwhile group A can have a project in visual arts or computer sciences
- Each student or group can have a maximum of two projects.
- A project which was presented in ASEF last year can be submitted for the second time if only:
- A significant progress has been made
- A time gap of two years has passed.
- ASEF does not have to cover any expenses on contestants’ behalf such as transportation, food, project materials, stand decorations, brochures, posters, etc.
- The ASEF steering committee reserves the right of amendment of any ASEF rule.
Project Requirements
- Only projects meeting all criteria are eligible for prizes and awards.
- All of the work performed on each project entered in the fair must substantially be the entrant’s own work. This includes the research for the project, the work carried out during the experiment, and the creation of the display.
- Those projects deemed to be questionable by the judges in this area, will be subject to closer scrutiny by having the entrant called in to explain one`s work.
- Assistance provided to the entrant by others shall be merely supportive in nature and must be acknowledged. Details must be given as to who provided assistance and what specifically they did to help. (Example: “Thank you to my mom for helping me pick out and buy the supplies and to my brother for checking my spelling.”)
- The poster must be in A0 format size.
- The Committee reserves the right
- not to display any exhibit
- to withhold any prizes for which the judges consider an adequate standard has not been reached. The Committee’s decision in all matters is final.
Presentation Rules
- Students are requested to stay by their own stand all day.
- If anyone needs to leave for special needs, the other member of the group must be present in the stand.
- If judges come to judge your project and you are not present you get disqualified from the fair.
Pick-Up Rules
- Entrants are responsible for the installation, maintenance, and removal of their projects.
- ASEF Committee reserves the right to remove from display and, if necessary, dispose of inappropriate items as outlined above.
- Staff will not be responsible for the security of items exhibited.
- All projects must be removed from the hall.
- Projects not removed by the designated time will be thrown away.
